Step-by-Step Pairing Guide:
- Ensure both your computer and mobile phone are connected to the same local Wi-Fi router.
- On your desktop, click Sync > Start Wi-Fi Sync Host. A unique QR code and 6-digit PIN appear.
- On your mobile device (iOS or Android), open myjournl > tap Sync > Scan Peer QR.
- Confirm the 6-digit PIN on both screens to establish the TLS session.
- The sync engine computes differences (deltas) and synchronizes entries and secrets in seconds.
5. Cross-Platform Encrypted Backups & Smart Merge
Exporting & Restoring Encrypted .myjournl Archives
You own your data completely. At any time, you can export a portable, self-contained .myjournl backup file containing your entire journal history, attachments, and secret vault, encrypted with AES-256-GCM and verified with HMAC-SHA256.
Navigate to Settings > Backups > Create Backup Archive. Enter an archive password and choose your save location (USB drive, local Documents folder, or offline hard drive).
When restoring, Smart Merge compares modification timestamps to preserve newer edits on either device without overwriting existing notes, or choose Overwrite for a complete clean state restoration.

7. Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Common Scenarios & Error Resolutions
Ensure both devices are on the identical Wi-Fi router / SSID. If connected to a 5GHz and 2.4GHz split network, verify your router bridges broadcast traffic between frequency bands and verify local firewall permissions.
You can adjust your inactivity auto-lock interval in Settings > Security > Auto-Lock to 1m, 2m, 5m, or 15m, or enable biometric Touch ID / Face ID for instant re-authentication.
You can always enter your Master Password manually to unlock the vault and re-enroll Touch ID or Face ID in Settings.
